Dispute letter for a late payment reported in error

Use this when an account shows a late payment you believe you made on time or that was reported incorrectly.

When to use this template

  • You have proof of an on-time payment.
  • A payment was made but credited late through no fault of yours.
  • The late date or severity (30/60/90 days) is wrong.

Why it is inaccurate: The late payment reported for [month/year] is inaccurate. I made the payment on [date], as shown in the enclosed records.

What I am asking: Please investigate with the furnisher and correct or remove the late payment notation if it cannot be verified.

Please send me the results of your investigation in writing, along with an updated copy of my credit report.
