Identity theft disputes

Equifax uses a separate fraud department address for identity theft disputes: Fraud Department, P.O. Box 105069, Atlanta, GA 30348-5069. Include your FTC Identity Theft Report from IdentityTheft.gov. Confirm on the bureau's site before mailing.

What to include in the envelope

  • Your dispute letter, identifying each item and why it is inaccurate.
  • A copy of a government-issued photo ID.
  • A copy of proof of address, such as a utility bill or bank statement.
  • Copies of documents that support your dispute.

Prove it was delivered

The bureau's investigation window, generally 30 days, starts when it receives your dispute. Certified mail gives you a tracking number and delivery record. Compare certified and first-class.
